Injured Buffs beat Scots

Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 12, 2008) --- The No. 20 Milligan College men's basketball team continued their six game winning streak Saturday night as they beat the Scots of Covenant College. The Buffs outlasted the Scots 74-59.

The Buffs won without their two top scorers, Jeff Barnes (Franklin, Tenn.) and Danny McKeehan (Morrow, Ohio). Barnes rolled his ankle early in the game which was later determined to be a high ankle sprain, while McKeehan had an injury off of the court. The two contribute almost half of the Buffs offense coming in at a combined total of 35 points per game.

Leading all players in scoring for the night was sophomore Derrrick Nave (Elizabethton, Tenn.) with 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Sophomore Alex Ingram (Hampton, Tenn.) played big for the Buffs off of the bench scoring 11 points on the night, while freshman Davis Warner (Smyrna, Tenn.) chipped in 10 points. Junior Tyler Estepp (Limestone, Tenn.) tied Nave in assists with five, while adding six rebounds and six points.

“We were really happy for the win tonight and to see other guys step up in the absence of some of our key players,” said Milligan College Head Coach Tony Wallingford . “It was unfortunate tonight to lose Jeff (Barnes) and be short staffed without some other key players. Injury, ineligibility, and illness give opportunities for guys to step up and get a chance and tonight that happened. We hope to continue to improve and we hope to get healthy soon.”

The No. 20 Buffs play host to the Bulldogs of Union College Tuesday, Jan. 15; tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
