Buffs pull past Scots at buzzer
Lookout Mountain, Ga. (Feb. 13, 2008) --- The Milligan College Men's basketball team got past the Scots of Covenant College at the buzzer Wednesday night. The Buffs won the AAC match up 79-77.
The Scots trailed the Buffs 42-37 at halftime, and a Buffs early second half run seemed to secure the game. With Milligan up by 11 points, the Scots called a timeout to regroup. The Scots went on a hot streak, and with five minutes remaining in the game the Buffs were down 11 points. Milligan tightened up their defense and hit some key shots to shorten Covenant's lead by six points with only a minute and a half remaining.
The Buffs trailed by a basket with just a few ticks remaining on the clock and were forced to foul. Milligan rebounded the missed bonus attempt with a chance to tie up the game. Sophomore Danny McKeehan (Morrow, Ohio) drove to the basket and was granted a blocking foul. McKeehan hit the first, but missed the second and the ball ended up in the hands of the opposition. Just three seconds remaining, freshman Isaiah Harris (Nashville, Tenn.) deflected the inbounds pass, and the ball went back to McKeehan. McKeehan put up the game winning shot which was just off the mark, but McKeehan followed his shot and tipped it in as the horn sounded to seal the victory.
The Buffs shot 47 percent from the field, as opposed to Covenant's 50 percent. The Buffs also trailed in 3-point percentage having shot 33 percent to the Scots' 50 percent

Junior Tyler Estepp (Limestone, Tenn.) contributed 15 points and five rebounds, while fellow junior Jeff Barnes (Franklin, Tenn.) pitched in 13 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Derrick Nave (Elizabethton, Tenn.) chipped in 10 points, which all came in the first half.
“Tonight was a game of runs,” said Milligan College Head Coach Tony Wallingford . “It was a good win, and I am happy with how we fought back at the end of the game.”
