Buffs lose on last second decision
Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 22, 2008) --- The No. 16 Milligan College men's basketball team lost a heart breaker to Montreat College Tuesday night in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. The Buffs lost by a final of 61-62.
Milligan was ahead for most of the game and even until the final tick of the clock. Montreat's Kinard Barnett released a prayer from 30 feet over two Milligan defenders that seemed to have touched the rafters. The shot was tracking for the basket, but all in attendance will never know if the shot actually would have gone in due to the fact that junior Jeff Barnes (Franklin, Tenn.) was assessed with a goal tending violation.
The Buffs have now lost their last three games, all of which have been in the AAC. With the loss the Buffs are now at 5-4 in conference play.
The Buffs shot 58 percent from the field and 57 percent from the line, while Montreat shot 40 percent from the field, but beat the Buffs at the line by making 13-15 for a tally of 87 percent.
Sophomore Derrick Nave (Elizabethton, Tenn.) was the leading scorer for the Buffs with 13 points. Junior Tyler Estepp (Limestone, Tenn.) dished out six assists, pitched in six points, and did not turn the ball over at the point guard position.
The Buffs travel to Tennessee Wesleyan Saturday, Jan. 26, for more AAC action. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
