Buffs late run too much for Cobra
Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 30, 2008) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team (15-5, 7-4) played close with the Cobras of Virginia Intermont, but a late surge from the Buffs seemed too much for the Cobras. The Buffs won the contest by a final of 84-76.
The Buffs trailed by as much as eight points in the contest. Back-to-back 3-point baskets from Junior Tyler Estepp (Limestone, Tenn. ) sparked the Buffs comeback. From this point on, the Buffs turned up the defense and made key shots down the stretch which sealed the victory for the Buffs.
The Buffs shot 51 percent (31-61) from the field as opposed to the Cobras 44 percent (27-61). The Buffs also out rebounded the Cobras 33 to 28.
The Buffs starters accounted of 73 points of their total offense. Junior Jeff Barnes (Franklin, Tenn.) led the Buffs in his career high point performance Wednesday night with 30 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Sophomore Danny McKeehan (Morrow, Ohio ) pitched in 15 points and six rebounds in the contest. Estepp had 14 points, four assists, and three steals. Freshman Davis Warner (Smyrna, Tenn.) rounded out the Buffs double figure scorers with 10 points, six boards, and three blocks.
“We really finished strong tonight,” said Head Coach Tony Wallingford. “Estepp stepped up for us tonight and made some big shots and handled the ball well. I was pleased with his effort tonight as well as the rest of the team's effort.”
The Buffs travel to AAC foe King College Saturday, Feb. 2. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
