Buffs drop second straight
Wise, Va. (Jan. 19, 2008) --- The No. 16 Milligan College men's basketball team lost to the Cavilers of UVA-Wise in an AAC battle Saturday afternoon. The Buffs (14-4, 5-3) lost the contest 57-69.
The Buffs have now been with out Jeff Barnes (Franklin, Tenn.) and Danny McKeehan (Morrow, Ohio) for the past three conference games. The two combine for a total of 35 points of the Buffs offense (Barnes 18 points per game and McKeehan 17 points per game).
The Buffs shot 35 percent from the field and only 30 percent from beyond the arc. The Buffs were out rebounded by the Cavs 36 to 42.
Leading scorer for the Buffs was freshman Ike Weaver (Unicoi, Tenn.) with 14 points and pulled down six rebounds. Junior Tyler Estepp (Limestone, Tenn.) pitched in 11 points and dished out five assists. Sophomore Derrick Nave (Elizabethton, Tenn.) pitched in 11 points for the Buffs
“It was a hard fought game,” said Head Coach Tony Wallingford. “Around the five minute mark we just could not get a shot to fall, and (Wise) went on an 8-0 run which widened their lead. The guys played hard and I thought it was a good effort.
The Buffs will host Montreat College on Tuesday, Jan. 22. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
