Buffs knocked off by Cavs

Bristol, Tenn. (Feb. 28, 2008) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team lost to the Cavaliers of UVA-Wise in the first round of the AAC Tournament Thursday morning at Viking Hall. The Buffs lost to the Cavs after beating them by 20 points just a week prior, by a final score of 74-62.

The Buffs struggled on both ends of the court. Milligan shot just 29 percent from the field, opposed to the Cavs 44 percent. The Buffs struggled even more from beyond the arc, as they shot 18 percent.

Junior Jeff Barnes ( Franklin , Tenn. ) , the Buffs only member of the AAC first team, led the Buffs attack with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Davis Warner ( Smyrna , Tenn. ) chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds. Warner was selected for the AAC's All-Freshmen Team.

“I am on both sides of the emotional coin right now,” said Milligan College Head Coach Tony Wallingford . “Obviously we are disappointed with the outcome of today's game. We struggled at both ends of the floor today; we shot poorly and we had too many defensive breakdowns. I am discouraged the season ended this way, however, on the other side the guys finished pretty well. We were picked fifth in the conference, and we finished third. We had a 20 win season, and we have 13 of 16 returning for next season. We hope to come back next year strong and contend for the conference title.”

The Buffs end the season 20-10, and 10-8 in the AAC.
