Milligan tennis begins season slowly
Banner Elk, N.C. (Feb. 2, 2008) --- The Milligan men's tennis team lost their opening match of the 2008 spring campaign against a strong NCAA Division II Lees-McRae squad by a margin of 0-9.
Johnathon Ryan (Wangaratta, Australia) and local standout Brian Upshaw (Kingsport, Tenn.) battled throughout their no. 1 doubles match but to no avail, ultimately losing 4-8. Upshaw then took on Romulus Teague at the no. 2 singles slot pushing him all the way until finally conceding to the Bobcat 6-4, 6-4.
“This is an excellent side,” commented Head men's and women's tennis coach Ron Worrell. “The score neglects to portrait how well we played in some areas. I am confident we can build from here.”
The Milligan College men's and women's tennis teams will next face Mars Hill College on Feb. 16. The match will serve as the opening fixture for an exciting Lady Buffs season.
