Lady Buffs have stellar performance
Williamsburg, Ky. (Feb. 20, 2008) --- The Milligan College softball team played almost completely flawless, committing only one error in their sweep, defeating University of the Cumberlands 9-0 in the first game and 8-0 in the second game.
Game 1 Milligan 9 Cumberlands 0
The first game was just the beginning of a great night. The Lady Buffs had 10 hits and nine runs. Sarah Smith (Elizabethton, Tenn.) led the way for the Lady Buffs at the plate. Smith went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs and a homerun. Leah White (Fall Branch, Tenn.) went 2 for 3 from the plate with 2 RBIs and a homerun. Mallory Tincher (Jacksonville, Fla.) knocked in 3 RBIs and hit a homerun for the Lady Buffs. Melanie Strickler (Kingsport, Tenn.) rounded out the Lady Buffs batting 2 for 3. The Lady Buffs had a stellar of a first game hitting the ball.
Kayla Walker (Tracy, Calif.) took the mound for the Lady Buffs. Walker is credited with the win, but that was the least of her performance. She only gave up four hits and struck out 7 batters.
Game 2 Milligan 8 Cumberlands 0
The Lady Buffs still had hot bats from the first game with nine hits. Leah White (Fall Branch, Tenn.) led the hits for the Lady Buffs, batting 2 for 4. Ellyn Sapp (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Sarah Smith (Elizabethton, Tenn.) batted 1 for 3 for the Lady Buffs. Melanie Strickler (Kingsport, Tenn.) batted 1 for 3 and had 2 RBIs. Alicia Engle (Erwin, Tenn.) hit a double and had 2 RBIs. Jessica Blevins (Watauga, Tenn.) rounded out the hot sticks with 2 RBIs.
Sidney Burns (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) was on the mound for the Lady Buffs. Burns had 10 strikeouts and only gave up four hits.
“This was a really good night for us and we played well rounded softball,” commented Head Coach Wes Holly. “Our pitching and batting was impressive and I am proud of the girls.”
