Lady Buffs show bright future in double-header

Banner Elk, N.C. (Feb. 15, 2008) --- The Milligan College softball team was looking for their first victory against their opponent Lees- McRae College heading into the double-header. The Lady Buffs had a rough start and lost the first game 1-2. The Lady Buffs shrugged that tough loss off and battled back to defeat the Bobcats 9-2 in the final game.

In the first game, the Lady Buffs struggled with only two hits for the entire game. Jessica Blevins (Watauga, Tenn.) hit a solo homerun to score the only run for the Lady Buffs. Leah White (Fall Branch, Tenn.) was the only other Lady Buff to get a hit.

Freshman Sidney Burns (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) started confidently on the mound for the Lady Buffs. She finished the game giving up nine hits to the Lady Bobcats.

Lees-McRae scored two runs on nine hits. Salle' Horner led the Lady Bobcats batting 3-3. Both Anna Carter and Paula Fryar went 2-3 from the plate.

The Lady Buffs rallied in the second game and were able to get their bats around on the ball much better. The Lady Buffs had eight hits and nine runs.

The Lady Buffs were led by Mallory Tincher (Jacksonville, Fla.) at the plate, batting 2-4. Jessica Blevins (Watauga, Tenn.) had another strong performance batting 1-5. Blevins hit another homerun and had two RBIs. Ryann Musick (Elizabethton, Tenn.) had a big hit for the Lady Buffs when the bases were loaded. Musick also had two RBIs.

Kayla Walker (Tracy, Calif.) took the mound first for the Lady Buffs. Ryann Musick stepped into the game in the fourth inning and finished the game. Musick is credited with the win for the Lady Buffs.

“We played much better tonight and I am real proud of the effort we gave,” commented Head Coach Wes Holly . “The second game was better than the first in terms of hitting the ball and I am impressed with our defense, committing only one error in both games. I look for us to make this the turn around and start winning.”
