Aqua Buffs snatch qualifier at AAC champs
Bristol, Va. (Feb. 16, 2008) --- The Milligan College swim team took on the AAC and wrapped up conference competition with an impressive first season finish and the programs first individual national qualifier. The Aqua Buffs finished 4th of 7 teams in the men's competition and the women's team came home 8th of 10.
Highlighting the first AAC Championships for the fledgling program was local former Science Hill sensation Darcee Kubisiak (Johnson City, Tenn.). Competing in the 200 meter butterfly Kubisiak finished in a time of 2:29.96 claiming her place at the National Championships in San Antonio, Tx. later this month.
Milligan placed 5th of ten teams in the combined team competition with Asbury taking top honors.
Fellow former Topper Taylor Duran (Johnson City, Tenn.) made waves in the 100 meter butterfly event when he smashed his personal best while placing 4th in the event.
”We're real excited about the direction the program has taken in only its' first year,” commented Head Coach Ron Goehring. “Darcee's individual national qualifier is very exciting.”
The Aqua Buffs next go to the NAIA National Championships in San Antonio , Tx. The championships begin Mar. 27.
