Lady Buffs beat Bryan
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TENN. (Jan. 9, 2008) ---
Heather Mandela and Rikki Baughman made life miserable for the Lady Lions, combining for 46 points and 18 rebounds.
The post duo was especially effective early in the second half, scoring 18 of Milligan's first 20 points to turn a 35-27 game into a 55-34 advantage just seven minutes after the break.
“Rikki and I help each other a lot, passing the ball back and forth,” said Mandela, who finished with 26 points and nine rebounds. “And the whole team really enjoys working together.”
Baughman, who totaled 20 points, nine rebounds and five steals, said the Lady Buffaloes are moving forward now that league play has begun in earnest.
“I think we're in a good spot,” said Baughman. “We would like to be 5-0, but I think we can only go up from here. We're playing great together and I think we will continue to do that.”
Hali Sparks added 10 points and four assists for Milligan while Kara Monk added seven points, four assists and some standout defense.
“Kara Monk came off the bench and did a really good job guarding Katie Davis,” said Milligan head coach Rich Aubrey. “Whatever Davis got, she earned. Kara really played well.”
Bryan got 25 points from Becca Morris and 11 points and 12 rebounds from Davis.
