Win streak continues for Lady Buffs

Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 22, 2008) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team defeated Montreat College 69-53, to improve their win streak to five. The most impressive part of the win streak is that all of the teams have been conference opponents.

“Everyone contributed to the game and as a result we had balance scoring,” commented Head Coach Rich Aubrey.

The Lady Buffs had 10 players that put points on the board, and four of the ten were in double figures. Rikki Baughman (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and Heather Mandela (Fairfax, Va ) were the two leading scorers for the Lady Buffs. Baughman put up 16 points and 4 steals for the Lady Buffs. Mandela scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Hali Sparks (Erwin, Tenn.) scored 10 points for the Lady Buffs, and Kara Monk (Oliver Springs, Tenn.) pitched in 11 points.

After the game, Baughman was recognized for scoring her 1,000 point in an earlier game this month. She was given the game ball by Coach Aubrey.

“That was such an honor and it was a great feeling to receive the game ball,” said Baughman.

“Tonight's defensive effort was astounding and we forced them (Montreat) to make turnovers. Offensively we will need to take much better care of the ball as we look to our next challenge against conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan,” stated Aubrey.

Next the Lady Buffs will look to keep the conference hot streak alive, as they travel to the tough environment of Tennessee Wesleyan. The game is set to start at 2 p.m., on January 26, at Athens, Tennessee.
