Lady Buffs win fourth straight conference game
Wise, Va. (Jan. 19, 2008) --- The Lady Buffs continue their strong performance as they traveled to Virginia to face conference opponent UVA Wise. The Lady Buffs controlled the game and defeated UVA Wise 86-72.
The Lady Buffs looked to their team leaders once again for strong performances. Leah Anderson's (Lexington, Ky.) hot hand from beyond the three point arc from the team's game against Union, carried over into today's game against UVA Wise, as she drained 5 three pointers. Anderson was tied for the team's second leading scorer with 19 points. Rikki Baughman (Elizabethton, Tenn.) was the team's other player with 19 points, but she also led the team in rebounding with 16. It was the freshman that has been drawing the attention of the opponent that stepped up big for the Lady Buffs. Heather Mandela (Fairfax, Va.) put on a stellar performance with 27 points to be the leading scorer, but she didn't stop there as she grabbed 6 rebounds for the Lady Buffs.
“This was a quality win overall, a great win on the road, and in the conference,” stated Head Coach Rich Aubrey. “The game was won by getting the ball inside and executing well on offense.”
The Lady Buffs will look to continue their winning streak against another conference opponent on January 22. They will be hosting Montreat College at the Lacy Field house on the Milligan College campus at 5:30 p.m.
