Buffs split with UVA-Wise

Milligan College, Tenn. (March 7, 2009) --- The Milligan College baseball team (13-6, 3-1) played UVA-Wise ( Wise, Va. ) in a conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 7. The Buffs beat the Cavs 2-0 in the first game, but dropped the second game 6-2.

In the first game, junior Collin Duffie (Calhoun, Ga.) earned the win for the Buffs throwing seven innings and recording four strikeouts. Duffie yielded only two hits.

Leading at the plate for the Buffs was sophomore Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) going 2-3 with a single, double, and an RBI. Junior Randy Rabon (Rock Hill, SC.) went 1-2 with a run and a stolen base, while senior Kendall Williams (Dillon, SC.) went 1-3 with a run scored.

In the second game, senior Michael Dillow (Gray, Tenn.) received the loss, throwing four innings. Dillow gave up three unearned runs on three hits.

Leading at the plate for the Buffs was Jones going 2-4 with an RBI. Senior Brandon Murphy (Johnson City, Tenn.) went 2-3 with two doubles, while Williams went 1-2 with a triple.

“We're disappointed that we didn't get two wins today, but our pitchers gave us the chance to win both games and that's all we can ask,” said Head Coach Nathan Meade. “We made some adjustments throughout the second game at the plate, but we just couldn't get anything to fall. We're disappointed but we get to come back tomorrow and go at it again.”

The Buffs will have another shot at UVA-Wise in a nine inning conference game on Sunday, March 8, at home. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
