Buffs beat Cavs 6-1

Milligan College, Tenn. (March 8, 2009) --- The Milligan College baseball team (14-6, 4-1) played UVA-Wise (Wise, Va.) in the third game of a conference weekend series on Sunday, March 8. The Buffs beat the Cavs 6-1.

Junior Michael Gallo (Peabody, Ma.) earned the win, throwing seven and one-third innings. He gave up one unearned run and recorded seven strikeouts and one walk. Junior Todd Caldwell (Johnson City, Tenn.) and sophomore Jason Trivett (Bristol, Tenn.) pitched relief and kept UVA-Wise at one run.

Leading the Buffs at the plate was senior Brian Busby (Lexington, SC.) going 3-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Junior Randy Rabon (Rock Hill, SC.) went 3-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.

“It was a good team win,” said Head Coach Nathan Meade. “Wise has got a strong club and it's always nice to win a serious against a good ball club. Mike Gallo gave us the chance to win and our offense really stepped up and provided the runs needed to win the game. I'm proud of our guys and look forward to our next opportunity.

The Buffs will play Roanoke College in a nine inning game on Tuesday, March 10, in Salem, Va. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
