Buffs squash Wasps

Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 21, 2009) --- The Milligan College baseball team came out strong against Emory & Henry (Emory, Va.) on Saturday, Feb. 21, at Anglin Field. The Buffs defeated the Wasps 11-1 in the first game and 12-2 in the second game.

Junior Collin Duffie (Calhoun, Ga.) won the first game pitching all six innings while giving up four hits. Senior Spencer Street (Johnson City, Tenn.) led the Buffs going 3-3 with a two-run home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. Senior Brian Busby (Lexington, SC.) and junior Eric Oxley (Ardmore, Tenn.) followed each going 3-4 with two RBIs.

Junior Shawn Ray (York, SC.) won the second game pitching for four innings with three strikeouts. Sophomore Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the Buffs in the second game going 4-4, three runs scored, and three RBIs. Senior Justin Motte (Johnson City, Tenn.) followed going 2-2 with two runs scored and one RBI.

“The guys played well today,” said Head Coach Nathan Meade . “We threw strikes and had great starts with Collin Duffie and Shawn Ray. We hit and defended well. It's always good to get wins early on in the season. We are gong to take those wins, build on them, and run with it.”

The Buffs play next in an AAC matchup on Feb. 28, at home with Virginia Intermont (Bristol, Va.). The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
