Buffs baseball announces four more signees

Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 16, 2008) --- Milligan's baseball coach Nathan Meade announced four more signees this week. Catcher Ryan Gentry, outfielder Andrew Sims, right-handed pitcher Cody Metcalf and infielder Brock Olinger from Science Hill High School are joining the Buffaloes.

At Science Hill Gentry was named to the 2008 state tournament team and played for The Edge baseball team. Gentry has a .308 batting average through seven games. He is a 2009 National Merit Scholarship Commended Student and plans to major in history at Milligan. Gentry lives in Johnson City, Tenn., with his parents Randy and Susanne Gentry.

“Ryan is a very diligent worker on the field and an outstanding student in the classroom,” Meade commented. “He is a model citizen and is the type of person that we want to have in our program.”

Science Hill's Sims averaged .365 with nine doubles, a triple, four home runs and 26 runs batted in with the Hilltoppers. Sims also played for The Edge summer team and played TBCA Region 1 and 2 teams.

“Andrew is an outstanding sign for our program” Meade said. “He has produced at a high level in his career at Science Hill. We look forward to Andrew being a part of our program over the next four years.”

Sims has a 3.3 GPA and plans on earning a degree in business. He lives in Johnson City with his parents Mary Lynn and Donald Sims. Sims's mother is an alumna of Milligan.

Metcalf is making a switch from outfielder to pitcher this season and Olinger did not see all of the action but still averaged .240. Milligan College is glad to welcome these additions to its baseball team.

Metcalf has a 3.4 GPA and is coming to Milligan undecided in his major. He lives in Johnson City with his mother Janet Caroll.

“Cody is an outstanding student and a great fit for our program at Milligan,” said Meade. “We know Cody will work hard because of the school that he is coming from. It is always nice to sign local talent from Science Hill and the surrounding high schools. We look forward to Cody's future in our program.”

Olinger lives in Johnson City with his parents Steve and Dollann Olinger. He plans to major in business and eventually attend Pharmacy School.

“Brock is another local talent from Science Hill that we are excited to add to our signing class,” commented Meade. “He is a very solid defensive infielder and will add depth. We look forward to working with Brock and watching him develop over the next four years.”
