Aqua Buffs dominate Tri-Meet
Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 24, 2009) --- The Aqua Buffs dominated the pool as Milligan hosted its first tri-meet, defeating Warren Wilson College 122-43. The Lady Aqua Buffs took second, besting Warren Wilson 110-54 and losing to Campbellsville University 88-83.
The men had an impressive 11 first-place times, dominating the relays and the freestyle category.
Freshman Aaron Pigford (Johnson City, Tenn.) , sophomore Chris Fry (Greenwood, Ind.) , sophomore Judd Haney (Ellwood City, Pa.) , and freshman Daniel Warfield (Andersonville, Tenn.) won the 200-meter medley relay by a margin of 13 seconds.
Individually Pigford took first in the 100-meter backstroke, Warfield placed first in the 100-meter butterfly, and Fry took first in both the 200-meter IM and the 100-meter breaststroke.
Freshman Eron Cavanaugh (Plainfield, Ind.) continues to impress, taking first in both the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle.
Freshman Daniel Jones (Bluffton, S.C.) for the men and sophomore Darcee Kubisiak (Johnson City, Tenn.) for the ladies battled through the long haul to take first in their respective 1500-meter freestyle events. Jones and Kubisiak also placed first in the 400-meter freestyle.
For the ladies, freshman Victoria Licari (Atascadero, Calif.) alsotook first in her individual events—the 200-meter IM and the 100-meter breaststroke.
Despite the ladies' valiant performance, they lost in the last relay to Campbellsville due to a difference of seven seconds.
Senior Rachel Auel (Monessen, Pa.) was honored after the meet, as this is her last regular-season home meet.
“We're improving,” said Head Coach Ron Goehring . “And it was good to get to honor Rachel as a team contributor.”
The Aqua Buffs compete next Saturday, Jan. 31. They will face Mars Hill College. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
