Buffs take two from Brevard
Milligan College, Tenn. (April 22, 2009) --- Tuesday the Milligan College men's baseball team (34-16, 14-9) battled Brevard College, bringing home two solid wins.
The Buffs defeated the Tornados 7-4 in the first game, then overwhelmed the opponent 8-1, aided by dominating pitching from junior Mike Gallo (Peabody, Mass.).
The Buffs struck early in the first game, producing six runs to lead off the game in the first inning.
Senior Brandon Murphy (Johnson City, Tenn.) batted 2-3 with an RBI and run scored. Senior Justin Motte (Johnson City, Tenn.) also had two hits, and he added two runs to the scoreboard.
Senior Brian Busby (Lexington, S.C.) and junior Eric Oxley (Ardmore, Tenn.) each added a hit, an RBI, a walk, and a run scored.
Freshman Josh Hullett (Knoxville, Tenn.) started on the mound and earned the win, pitching 5 1/3 innings, allowing four earned runs, seven hits, and a walk.
Sophomore Jason Trivett (Bristol, Tenn.) pitched a scoreless seventh inning and earned his twelfth save. He continues to be ranked among the top three pitchers in the nation for saves earned.
Gallo earned the win in the second game, powering through six innings, allowing one run on four hits, and one walk. Gallo struck out four.
The game remained close until the fifth inning when the Buffs took their one-run lead to a six-run lead.
Juniors Randy Rabon (Rock Hill, S.C.) and Ricky Morgan (Johnson City, Tenn.) each contributed a run scored and an RBI on two hits. Junior Dallas Crouch (Jefferson City, Tenn.) also contributed a run and an RBI. Busby batted 2-4 with two runs scored.
The Buffs return to conference play Friday, April 24, versus Covenant College at home. The game begins at 6 p.m.
