Buffs edge Bryan in pitcher's duel

Milligan College, Tenn. (April 3, 2009) --- The Milligan College men's baseball team (27-9, 11-3) defeated Bryan College 2-1 under the lights Friday in the first match up of a three-game series.

Junior Mike Gallo (Peabody, Mass.) was attributed with the win for the Buffs, pitching seven innings and allowing one run on five hits. Gallo struck out six.

Sophomore Jason Trivett (Bristol, Tenn.) was awarded the save.

However, the competition was close Friday, and the Buffs put up two runs on five hits to overtake the Lions.

Sophomore Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the Buffs with a triple and an RBI. Senior Brian Busby (Lexington, S.C.) and junior Randy Rabon (Rock Hill, S.C.) each contributed a double to the Buffs' offensive effort.

Juniors Eric Oxley (Ardmore, Tenn.) and Ricky Morgan (Johnson City, Tenn.) each added a single.

“Our intensity level wasn't very good tonight,” said Head Coach Nathan Meade . “At this point in the season every game we play is the biggest game of the year, and I just don't think we played with that attitude. But we'll come back tomorrow ready to play.”

The Buffs play a double-header versus Bryan College Saturday, April 4, beginning at 1 p.m.
