Buffs finish Montreat series with blowout
Montreat, N.C. (March 31, 2009) --- The Milligan College men's baseball team (26-9, 10-3) routed Montreat College 16-5 in the final matchup of a three-game series Tuesday.
The game was cut short due to the run rule, as the Buffs led by more than 10 runs after seven innings. In total, Milligan tallied 18 hits.
Junior Ricky Morgan (Johnson City, Tenn.) made his return to the field this weekend after suffering from a wrist injury and made his presence known at the plate, contributing a three-run home run.
Senior Spencer Street (Johnson City, Tenn.) batted 2-4 with a home run in the fifth inning.
Senior Brian Busby (Lexington, S.C.) , junior Eric Oxley (Ardmore, Tenn.) , and junior Kendall Williams (Dillon, S.C.) each added three hits.
Junior Frank Newcomb (Knoxville, Tenn.) pitched 3 1/3 innings for the Buffs and was attributed with the win. Junior Todd Caldwell (Johnson City, Tenn.) pitched the second half of the game, allowing one earned run on three hits.
“This was a big series for us,” said Head Coach Nathan Meade . “I told the guys this was our biggest game of the year up to this point. We played well all around. We were down 4-0 early and we battled back.”
The Buffs face conference opponent Bryan College on Friday, April 3, at home. The game currently is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
