Bulldogs get the best of Buffs
Athens, Tenn. (April 14, 2009) --- The Milligan College men's baseball team (29-12, 13-6) finished their series with Tennessee Wesleyan Tuesday in an 11-4 loss.
It was a game of explosive innings, and while the Buffs' offense was good, Milligan struggled to halt the Bulldogs' runs.
Junior Mike Gallo (Peabody, Mass.) started the game and was attributed with the loss after pitching 3 1/3 innings. Gallo threw three strikeouts and allowed one walk and six earned runs.
Milligan's big event at the plate occurred in the third inning when junior Ricky Morgan (Johnson City, Tenn.) knocked in all four runs on a grand slam. Senior Spencer Street (Johnson City, Tenn.) was 2-5 at the plate, contributing two singles and a run scored.
“We got off to a good start,” said Head Coach Nathan Meade. “We were swinging the bats well, and Mike came out throwing well. They had one big inning in the fourth, and we just didn't put a stop to it.”
The Buffs face Cumberland University on Wednesday, April 15, at home. The double-header begins at 2 p.m.
