Buffs sweep NCAA Div. II Brevard College
Milligan College, Tenn. (March 18, 2009) --- The Milligan College baseball team came out with enthusiasm against Brevard College (Brevard, N.C.) on Wednesday, March 18, at Anglin Field. The Buffs defeated the Tornados 5-3 in the first game and 4-3 in the second game.
Senior Michael Dillow (Gray, Tenn.) won the first game pitching 6 2/3 innings while giving up 3 on 5 hits with one strikeout. Sophomore Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn) led the Buffs going 2-2 with a walk and a double. Junior Kendall Williams (Dillon, S.C.) followed going 1-3 with a triple resulting in two RBIs.
Junior Frank Newcomb (Knoxville, Tenn.) won the second game pitching five complete innings while giving up three hits and 10 strikeouts. Jones led the Buffs going 2-4 and drove the tie run in the bottom of the 7th with two outs.
“Anytime you sweep a double header you are excited,” said Assistant Coach Chris Gordan. “We are happy to see our guys execute late in the game and come from behind to get the win. Michael Dillow and Frank Newcomb did a phenomenal job. They pitched deep in the game giving us a chance to win. We are looking forward to a big conference match up this weekend against King.”
The Buffs play next in an AAC matchup on March 21, away at King College (Bristol, Tenn.). The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
