Buffs sweep Bryan in 3-game series

Milligan College, Tenn. (April 4, 2009) --- The Milligan College men's baseball team (29-9, 13-3) finished their series with Bryan College Saturday winning both games of the double-header. The Buffs swept Bryan in the three-game series played at Anglin Field.

The Buffs shut out the Lions 3-0 in the first game, then came from behind to win the second game 4-3 in an explosive final inning.

Junior Collin Duffie (Calhoun, Ga.) was the foundation for the Buffs' first win, pitching six scoreless innings, allowing only one hit, and striking out seven.

Sophomore Jason Trivett (Bristol, Tenn.) pitched a scoreless seventh inning and was awarded the save.

The Buffs' offense was evenly spread, with junior Dallas Crouch (Jefferson City, Tenn.) , senior Brian Busby (Lexington, S.C.) , junior Eric Oxley (Ardmore, Tenn.) , junior Ricky Morgan (Johnson City, Tenn.) , and senior Brandon Murphy (Johnson City, Tenn.) each contributing a hit. Crouch recorded two RBIs and scored a run.

Junior Shawn Ray (York, S.C.) started on the mound in the second game, pitching six innings and scattering three hits. Junior Aaron Dorriety (Pickens, S.C.) was attributed with the win in an inning of relief.

The score was 3-1 in the Lions' favor when Dorriety entered the game.

Murphy led off the seventh with a single, followed by Morgan who hit a two-run blast, which tied the game. Junior Randy Rabon (Rock Hill, S.C.) scored the winning run.

Senior Spencer Street (Johnson City, Tenn.) , Busby, and Crouch also each contributed a hit to the Buffs' offensive effort.

“I'm proud of our guys,” said Head Coach Nathan Meade . “It has been a tough series. We didn't hit as well as we could have hoped, but pitching came through in the clutch. We had some timely hits, too. I'm proud of the team for getting the job done.”

The Buffs face Virginia Intermont Monday, April 6, in Bristol, Va. The game begins at 2 p.m.
