Buffs make clean sweep of King series

Bristol, Va. (March 22, 2009) --- After two big wins Saturday, the Milligan College men's baseball team defeated the King College Tornado 10-9 Sunday, to make the weekend a clean sweep for the Buffs. Now on a seven-game winning streak, the Buffs are 24-8 and 8-2 in conference.

Sunday's game was a battle, the Buffs coming back from a 2-7 deficit in the fourth inning. Gradually putting runs on the scoreboard, Milligan trailed King 7-9 in the top of the ninth.

At this point, freshman Ryan White (Knoxville, Tenn.) hit in junior Dallas Crouch (Jefferson City, Tenn.) , tying the score at eight. Senior Spencer Street (Johnson City, Tenn.) then batted in junior Ben Taylor (Dandridge, Tenn.) , who scored the winning run.

Senior Brandon Murphy (Johnson City, Tenn.) batted 2-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI. Sophomore Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) , who has been a dependable leadoff batter for the Buffs this weekend, followed hitting 2-5 with a double and a run scored. Junior Randy Rabon (Rock Hill, S.C.) was 1-3 at the plate with a three-RBI triple and a walk. Street was 2-5 with two RBIs.

Junior Aaron Dorriety (Pickens, S.C.) earned the win, while sophomore Jason Trivett (Bristol, Tenn.) was awarded the save. Dorriety is now 2-1, while Trivett has pitched seven successful saves.

“It was a great team win,” said Head Coach Nathan Meade . “The pitchers did a great job of shutting the door late in the game. Offensively, the whole team stepped up.”

The Buffs travel to Montreat, N.C., to face conference opponent Montreat College Saturday, March 28. The double-header is set to begin at 2 p.m.
