Buffs split to bow out of AAC Tourney
Kingsport, Tenn. (May 6, 2009) --- The Milligan College baseball team fended off the Cavaliers of Montreat College early Tuesday morning by a final of 4-0 to advance to an evening matchup against the No. 1 seeded Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs.
Against Montreat, junior Frank Newcomb (Knoxville, Tenn.) earned the win in 1.2 innings of work. Newcomb scattered three hits and struck out one in the effort.
Offensively, seniors Brian Busby (Lexington, S.C.) and Spencer Street (Johnson City, Tenn.) led the Buffs against the Cavaliers. Busby was 2-for-5 at the plate including two RBIs, while Street was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
During the evening matchup, the Buffs struggled to get things going against Tennessee Wesleyan as the No. 4 seeded Buffs fell by a final of 17-2.
Junior Mike Galo (Peabody, Mass.) was credited with the loss after one inning of work on the mound. Galo scattered seven hits, while he yielded five earned runs.
At the plate, Busby once again led the Buffs attack as he was 1-for-4 including a two-run homerun during the eighth inning. Freshman Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) performed well for the Buffs offensively as he was 2-for-3 against the Bulldogs.
The Buffs finish their successful season with a school best 39-19 record. From this year's squad, the Buffs graduate six seniors and look to have another strong showing next season.
