3 Lady Buffs named to All-AAC squad; Holly awarded Coach of the Year
Milligan College, Tenn. (April 29, 2009) --- The Milligan College softball team took several awards during this year's AAC awards ceremony, including the AAC regular season title.
Head Coach Wes Holly was named AAC Coach of the Year upon the Lady Buffs' 13-3 finish in the AAC and 27-15 overall.
Sophomore standout Sidney Burns (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) was named AAC Pitcher of the Year after another impressive year. This is the second AAC Pitcher of the Year award for Burns in as many years. Burns led the AAC in strikeouts per game at 11.35 and ERA at 0.63. Burns also set the Milligan College record for lowest ERA in the AAC with a 0.09. During the Lady Buffs' game against North Greenville University this past season Burns shattered the Milligan College strikeout record as she retired 17 batters in a single game.
Senior Jessica Blevins (Watauga, Tenn.) was selected to the All-AAC squad as an infielder. Blevins finished her senior season with a .400 batting average and a .648 slugging percentage. Blevins finished her career with 31 home runs, which is second in Milligan history all-time. Over the course of the season, Blevins drove in 29 runs.
Freshman Jessica Fix (Chesapeake, Va.) was the third Lady Buff selected to the All-AAC squad. Fix had a notable first season for the Lady Buffs as she led the league in hits with 57, while she had a batting average of .445 and a slugging percentage of .773. Fix tallied 22 RBIs on the season, and also led the team in home runs with eight.
