Lady Buffs' softball adds Biggs and Smith

Milligan College, Tenn. (June 2, 2009) --- Head Coach Wes Holly finalized his 2009-10 recruiting last week as he signed Dobyns Bennett standout Emily Biggs and Lebanon High School's Allie Smith to play softball for the Lady Buffs and attend Milligan College.   



Biggs led the Lady Indians in hits and RBIS this past season with 57 and 34, respectively. Biggs also had a stellar .623 slugging percentage and a batting average of .400.

“Emily is a great student-athlete,” commented Head Coach Wes Holly. “With her work ethic and talent I think she will be a great fit at Milligan. We are very excited that she decided to come and play ball for us.”

Biggs is the daughter of Cindy and Edward Biggs of Kingsport, Tenn., and she plans to study physical therapy. 



Smith boasted a .444 batting average this past season, including a .750 slugging percentage. Smith tallied nine doubles, two triples and one home run on the year, as well as 15 runs scored. Behind the plate, Smith threw out six runners this season and committed no errors.

“We are very happy that Allie chose Milligan,” added Holly. “She is a hard worker both in the classroom and on the field.”

Smith plans to also study physical therapy, and is the daughter of Dean Smith and Joyce and Eddie Kiser.

Along with Biggs and Smith, Holly has signed five other newcomers to adorn the orange and black next season for the Lady Buffs in Unaka's McKenzie Eggers, Cherokee's Abby Hughes, Maryville's Camille Olvey, Knox Farragut's Morgon Holbrook and Calvary Christian's Abby Conner.

The Lady Buffs graduated two off of this year's squad that won back-to-back AAC Regular Season titles. Senior Jessica Blevins (Watauga, Tenn.), an All-AAC pick, led the Lady Buffs in RBIs with 29 and stolen bases with 16. Senior Mallory Tincher (Jacksonville, Fla.) was an All-AAC Academic selection.
