Milligan to sign swimmer Alfano
THE CHATTANOOGAN (April 4, 2009)-- Evan Alfano, an All State swimmer and recent All American nominee will sign scholarship papers with Milligan College in Johnson City on Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. at Notre Dame High School.
Alfano placed fifteenth at the state championship as a freshman and in the top 10 his remaining three years, despite undergoing major kidney reconstruction surgery during his junior season. He was on the 2009 Notre Dame relay team that has been placed on the All American consideration list after finishing fourth at the state championship meet held at UT Knoxville in February.
Alfano also received scholarship offers from King College in Bristol, Tn., and Cumberland College in Kentucky. He was recruited by Berry College, Lindinwood University in St Louis, Asbury College in Kentucky, William and Mary and NYU.
Alfano said, “I'm excited to be swimming for Milligan College and Coach Goehring. He's got a new program that I'm excited to be a part of. I'd also like to thank coach Tillman and coach Drew for getting me to this point in my swimming career.”
“The Notre Dame High School swim team has evolved into a more competitive program over the past three seasons," said Notre Dame swim coach Dale Tillman. "Evan Alfano has been an integral part of that transformation. Not only is Evan one of the top high school breaststrokers in Tennessee, he is also an outstanding sprint freestyler and has an excellent individual medley event.
"Milligan College is getting a very versatile swimmer in Evan, and I expect him to make an immediate impact on their program, which is very exciting. Alfano is the sixth Notre Dame swimmer in the past three years to go onto the collegiate level.”

"Evan will be counted on to contribute in the breaststroke and IM events. Evan is a great addition to the two-year-old program at Milligan and will take Milligan to the next level at nationals."
