Covenant too tough for Milligan Tennis
Milligan College, Tenn. (April 3, 2009) --- Milligan's Buffs and Lady Buffs put up a good fight against Covenant College but lost. The Buffs lost 8-1, but the Lady Buffs fared better in 5-4.
The Buffs were led by lone winner Bryan Upshaw (Kingsport, Tenn.) who continued his winning ways today by defeating his opponent by a score of 8-6.
Albany Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Sarah Hopson (Greeneville, Tenn.) lost a heartbreaker at #2 doubles with the close 9-8(6). Caitlin Conley (Bristol, Tenn.) played a convincing win at #1 singles with 6-1, 6-2. Jessie Rose Remegi (Hilton Head, S.C.) followed suite for the Lady Buffs at #3 singles with a come-from- behind win 4-6, 7-5, (10-8). Sara Hopson (Greeneville, Tenn.) helped out with a win at #4 singles in 6-4, 7-6(4). Heather Bell (Franklin, N.C.) chimed in with a win at #6 singles with another come-from-behind win 4-6, 6-3, (11-9).
“We fought a hard battle today. Albany Kelly was very sick but chose to play anyhow,” said Head Coach Ron Worrell . “She made a tremendous effort to help us get a team win, but it was not to be”.
Milligan's next match will be at UVA-Wise on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
