Talbert wins 1500-meters, Wood top collegian
Lynchburg, Va. (April 30, 2009) --- Milligan College men's and women's track and field teams picked up another national qualifier, improved on a national mark and recorded seven personal bests at the Liberty Twilight Invitational late Thursday night.
Lady Buff senior All-American Jacklyn Talbert (Mt. Carmel, Tenn.) won the women's 1500-meters with a season-best time of 4:39.74. Her mark was well under the national A standard. Two more Milligan women finished in the top eight in the 1500. Senior Nicole Moore (Boise, Id.) finished fourth overall in 4:46.91, while junior Shanna Raines (Johnson City, Tenn.) recorded another lifetime best in the event (5:01.72) to finish seventh. In the women's 5000-meters, sophomore Lili Zaldana (Bristol, Tenn.) finished fourth, while freshman Gillian Giffen (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished fifth.
On the men's side, junior Aaron Wood (Aurora, Colo.) was the top collegian of the night in the men's 800-meters. Wood recorded another national A standard time of 1:52.91.
Freshman cross country All-American Austin Ellis (Charlottesville, Va.) finished fifth and recorded a national B standard in the men's 5000-meters with a time of 15:07.56. Freshman Tanner Payne (Georgetown, Tenn.) collected two more personal bests in the discus throw (44.06 meters) and javelin (44.60 meters) to close out his first season with the Buffs.
Freshman Dwayne Jordan (Kissimmee, Fla.) grabbed another personal best in the men's 400-meters (51.05).
