Buff Baseball unveils 2010 schedule

Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 19, 2010) --- Milligan College Baseball recently unveiled their 2010 schedule, which include 10 games against pre-season top 25 teams. Head Coach Nathan Meade made the announcement.

“We’re excited about our schedule for the upcoming season,” Meade said.  “I feel like we have a lot of quality competition during our mid-week that should help prepare us for our weekend conference series.”

The Buffs open the season when they travel to Salem, Va., to take on the Roanoke College Maroons, an NCAA D-III school, on Feb. 6. From there, Milligan will travel to Lee University (Feb. 10) in Cleveland, Tenn., and Toccoa Falls, Ga., where they will face Toccoa Falls College (Feb. 12-13).

Milligan opens their home slate at Anglin Field on Feb. 15,  when they host the Owls of University of Maine-Presque Isle, who were featured last March in the New York Times story for playing all of their games on the road due to the weather conditions in Maine. The February date with Milligan opens the slate of 34 games on the road for the Owls until their lone home stand on the schedule in the last week of April.

Other nonconference games include Indiana Tech (Feb. 20-21), Emory and Henry (Feb. 24, Apr. 8), Brevard College (March 16 and 31), Centre College (March 23-24), and Cumberland University (Apr. 27).

Milligan starts the conference portion of this schedule on March 6th-7th when Montreat College visits Anglin Field. The Buffs will host AAC contests with Tennessee Wesleyan (March 13-14), Reinhardt College (April 3-4) and Union College (April 17-18).

Milligan will travel to play AAC foes Covenant College (March 19-20), Virginia Intermont (March 27-28), Bryan College (April 9-10), UVA-Wise (April 24-25), and will close out the season with a trip to Bluefield College (May 1-2).

The AAC conference tournament is scheduled for May 7th-12th in Kingsport, Tenn.

“I think we have a good mix of veteran players along with some quality young talent that should make a good push at a very successful season,” added Meade. “We’ve really put an emphasis on not only setting goals but setting objectives that must be accomplished along the way in order to reach those goals.”

The Buffs finished the 2009 season with a school best 39-19 record as they look to the 2010 campaign. From last year’s squad, the Buffs only graduated six and return both of their All-AAC first team selections in Colin Duffie (Calhoun, Ga.) and Jason Trivett (Bristol, Tenn.).
