No. 1 seed Lady Buffs eliminated

New Albany, Ind. (May 8, 2008) --- The Milligan College softball team lost in the second round of the Region XII tournament Thursday afternoon to Mountain State University. The Lady Cougars outlasted the Lady Buffs 3-1.

Sophomore Kayla Walker (Tracy, Calif.) is credited with the loss as she scattered three hits, while giving up three earned runs in one and one-third innings of work. Sophomore Ryann Musick (Elizabethton, Tenn.) came in and pitched two and two-third innings in relief, while AAC Pitcher of the Year freshman Sydney Burns (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) pitched two innings and struck out two batters.

At the plate, the Lady Buffs were led by All-AAC junior Jessica Blevins (Watauga, Tenn.) as she went 2-2 with a run scored. Another All-AAC pick, senior Sarah Smith (Elizabethton, Tenn.) played her final game for the Lady Buffs and went 1-3 at the plate, as did fellow All-AAC pick sophomore Leah White (Fall Branch, Tenn.). Burns went 1-2 on the day offensively.

Lady Buffs collect honors

Milligan College, Tenn. (May 6, 2008) --- The Lady Buffs softball team accumulated an impressive number of Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) honors following their victorious tournament at White Top Creek in Bristol, Tenn.

Lady Buffs Head Coach Wes Holly, who led the team to a 5- 1 record during the AAC Tournament and picked up his 600th career win, was honored as the AAC Coach of the Year. Holly led the Lady Buffs during the regular season to a 31-16 winning record, which included the first game between a NAIA team and Team USA and ended with an AAC regular season conference title. 

Sidney Burns (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) picked up her second Player of the Week honor this season as she pitched 21 0f 27 innings to power the regular season champions to the tournament win. Additionally, Burns was named the NAIA Region XII Pitcher of the Week. As a freshman Burns has displayed strength and stamina throughout the season.

Joining Burns on the AAC All-Conference team are Jessica Blevins (Watauga, Tenn.), Sarah Smith (Elizabethton, Tenn.), Laken Stewart (Pennington Gap, Va.), Mallory Tincher (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Leah White (Fall Branch, Tenn.). Each team member played a pivotal role in the Lady Buffs' winning record and their regular season and tournament success.
